Payments at MIDAX is where it all began in 1998 and continues with innovation today

Midax’s first switch was introduced in 1998. Its role was to combine in house payments with open loop payments, such as credit, debit, generic fleet and EBT with third party providers. From the beginning Midax has focused heavily on audit ability and being able to create trace files for any transaction. Whether it was an external or an internal transaction, If there was a question of any type the retailer’s access to Midax’s audit controls would enable him/her to instantly address, without having to refer to a third party. This single form of command and control saves frustration on the part of the consumer and it reduces administrative work at the courtesy counter in the retail store. Midax trace files are widely respected in the payment business as definitive statements of the data flow from the swipe to its returned authorization.

All of these payment methods have continued to develop over the almost 25 years they've been in the field, always with the emphasis on reducing operational maintenance, reducing the overall cost of payment processing, while increasing the cardholder’s control and ease of use of the payment methods available.

Gift Card

The next solution for Midax was to add prepaid gift card. With a Midax in-house gift card, we are not restricted as you are with branded gift card. Our In-house gift cards can be made much more flexible in terms of the business logic you want to adopt: using loyalty points and crediting dollar values to gift card for example; or a scrip card, where you can donate to the card holders favorite charity; or making a gift card a family card or a student card.

The Midax in house gift card reduces the maintenance on the card by utilizing ACH auto-debit, so that the gift card can be recharged automatically from the consumer’s bank account once the given threshold is met. By using check authorization rules to identify a customer’s payment record, you can allow a gift card to go negative if you wish in knowledge that the ACH recharge transaction will replenish the value on the card.

Pay by Points

As well as being able to post loyalty points as a credits onto a gift card,  Midax also offers pay by points to access external rewards databases and convert points from those databases into currency; for example in casinos where we take player points and turn them into currency that can be spent at other retail locations.

In-house Charge Card

In-house charge card is another means of offering credit to organizations such as the Boy Scouts, schools, churches and other Businesses. The Midax solution maintains audit controls of the shopping basket so that the authorized purchaser stays within his define limits of products and spending. The Midax in-house charge card works directly with the lane, so there is no need for any kind of supervisor authorization.

Additional controls allow an organization to have a global credit limit and also a limit that can be applied to each individual card. The organization has his own portal to verify purchases that its authorized cardholders have made during the week, month or life time of the account. The payment from the organization can be automated by linking ACH debit to the organizations account with the capability of an off-statement discount for ACH. The organization gets the statement by email and can have a custom grace period to dispute any transactions before the payment is automatically debited to their account, further reducing maintenance in the retail chain.

Fleet Card

Midax’s Private Fuel Network Fleet Card is a logical extension of the same principle but with additional controls as the fleet card manager can limit a given card to certain NACS codes. Midax also enable through our mobile app additional controls that can be applied to a given driver: for example to add a contract number to a fuel transaction, verify odometer readings and apply other free format controls that you want to apply where there is a suspicion of unauthorized fleet card usage. This works by the driver initiating a transaction while in the cab at a gas station, answering the questions the mobile app presents and getting a dynamic authorization code, valid for the next few minutes in conjunction with the card.

ACH Card

ACH transactions can be made on a single transaction to single transaction basis, using the check authorization rules that the retail chain defines. Also it can be used as we've seen above to auto-debit an in-house charge or fleet card and be deployed to auto recharge a gift card.

Mobile

All of these payment methods could now be incorporated into Midax order ahead or loyalty applications on the phone. We use NFC, QR codes and barcodes to hook the mobile app into the lane and where we deploy all of these payment methods within our e-commerce suite ordering and payments. In this way our retailers can continue to offer a very flexible methods

Check Authorization

Midax’s first foray into payments was in 1998 when we incorporated check authorization into the NCR 2127. Mindful of endemic maintenance in check authorization, we built out check authorization to dynamically allocate customers to authorization levels based on their traffic and successful payment methods, so that we could minimize back office engagement. We also expanded on check authorization to include ECC and BOC and deploy the same check authorization rules in acceptance of ACH transactions.
